Mariah Morris

Mariah Morris has served our North Carolina public schools in various capacities for over fifteen years. She currently serves as the K-5 Literacy Facilitator in Orange County Schools where she works to support and develop literacy initiatives across the district. She most recently has served as the Innovation and Special Projects Coordinator of a medium-sized district in North Carolina, where she worked to develop innovative school improvement efforts at the district’s low-performing schools. Centering equity, innovation, and creativity, Mrs. Morris believes in reimagining our public schools to support the needs of all of our students.

Prior to serving as a district leader, Mrs. Morris was named the 2019 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year. In this role, Mrs. Morris served as an advisor to the North Carolina State Board of Education, as well as a member of the Professional Educator Preparation and Standards Commission and the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Commission. Mrs. Morris is committed to advocating for equitable education policy and is a graduate of the Education Policy Fellowship Program, as well as a member of the inaugural ElevateNC cohort with the Hunt Institute and myFutureNC. She serves on a number of advisory boards including the Education NC, Education Innovation Network, and Public School Forum of North Carolina advisory boards.

Prior to being named the North Carolina Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Morris taught second grade in the Sandhills region. Mrs. Morris was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Additionally, she was a Master Teacher Fellow at Wake Forest University where she completed her Masters of Education. She is proudly married to another public school educator and advocate, and together they are deeply invested in the success of our public schools.
