Who We Are

Dr. Sharon L. Contreras, CEO

Dr. Contreras frequently sums up her passion for public education in a few short words: “It’s a great day to be an educator.”

For more than three decades Contreras has established herself as a thought leader, innovator, and trailblazer in education at every level — from the classroom to administrator of some of the nation’s largest public school districts.

Forward Thinking Leaders

The Innovation Project (TIP) is a collaborative of forward-thinking public education leaders representing public school districts from across North Carolina, addressing challenges in  modern-day learning through innovation, collaborative partnerships, and pioneering initiatives. Guided by a dedicated board of directors and an expert professional staff, TIP and its members are making a difference in public education by shaping the future of learning.

We have to be able to think outside of the box without the current restraints we have.  If we continue to do what we’re doing, we’re going to continue to get the same results that we’ve gotten.

Dr. Crystal Hill, Superintendent, Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools

We’re a smaller district and TIP has helped even the playing field.  It opens up new possibilities and ideas for us that we didn’t know were out there.
